Pendleton Woolen Mills design notes-
This pattern echoes the influences on the Rio Grande weavers of New Mexico, who produced cotton weavings as early as 800 AD. When churro sheep arrived in the region in 1540, shepherds, spinners and weavers elevated utilitarian weaving to art through color and pattern. The Saltillo Diamond, a Mexican motif, was adopted into later Rio Grande weavings. Grande blankets were made of two strips joined in the middle by the Costura del Centro, or central seam.
